We all have responsibility for being the best we can be – to perform the best that we can. To be the best and perform the best, I am passionate that it is critical that you understand how to manage your energy. Managing your energy requires reflection on what it takes to fuel up or nourish up in all aspects of your life. Take pause to think about the following questions: What does it take for you to be truly at your best – think about physical activity – exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet? Think about mental activity – thought-provoking conversations, projects? Think about emotional health – strength of relationship with spouse, family, friends? And spiritual energy – time for gratitude, meditation?
I am a huge fan of the work that Tony Schwartz has done with professional athletes. My favorite book is The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loeher and Tony Schwartz. Tony Schwartz is the CEO of The Energy Project. The Energy Project focuses on finding ways for companies to fully engage their workforce.
The Energy Audit is one of several tools available on this site. There is a version for employees and one for leaders. Before you take the survey, please pause and think about how your personal management of energy impacts your performance.
The energy audit has been used on thousands of employees and dozens of companies. Through a series of questions that focus on Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual Energy, an Energy Score is calculated.
“Employees, like the companies they work for, are largely unaware of the price they pay by neglecting their core energy needs.” The Energy Project
Evan Wittenberg, Head of Global Leadership Development at Google states, “The transformative power of this work lies in its ability to help very smart and already high-performing people change their current behaviors to be even more effective, fulfilled and connected to others. The foundations of good leadership are self-awareness and thoughtful action, and these ideas can truly be life-changing for both.”
So, take a moment and take the survey. But don’t just take the survey – do something about the results of the survey. Be conscious of your energy sources – where you are depleted. Figure out what you need to do to replenish energy and turn this insight into habits that will make you more and more the best you possible!
